What is an LLC?

Corporation search by Find-a-Company

LLC stands for Limited Liability Company. An LLC is a kind of company that limits the liability of its owners, but is not a corporation. LLCs can be organized for profit, or not, in most jurisdictions of the United States.

An LLC provides several advantages:

  • An LLC has a lot of flexibility in how it is taxed.
  • Members are protected from debts and some acts taken by the LLC.
  • There are no limits on the number of members or their citizenship status.
  • Less paperwork is required than for a corporation.
  • Can take advantage of pass-through taxation.
If you need to locate an LLC in a particular state, you need to find the corporation search page for that state and perform a query.
